During interrogation, Parashar first tried to mislead the officials by claiming that he had disposed of the child’s body in a canal. However, he eventually admitted to have allegedly killed by child by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon, according to Abhijeet Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Meerut.
Kumar noted that the police is also questioning the child’s mother, Gurpreet Kaur, in connection with the matter, adding that she has so far denied any knowledge of crime.
As per reports, Parashar had known Gurpreet for nearly three years. The two of them first came in contact with each other regarding some work. He had hoped to marry her. On being questioned by police, the accused allegedly said that he considered the child as an obstacle the his plan, which led him to plot the six-year-old’s abduction.
On Tuesday morning, Angadveer was playing outside his home in Ramraj village when he suddenly disappeared. He failed to return even after several hours, leaving his family members worried.
Later on, a kidnapping complaint was filed by the child’s grandmother, Balvinder Kaur, at the Hasuma police station. She named Parashar as a suspect in the case.
While investigating the matter, police collected CCTV footage from cameras installed in the neighbourhood. In the recording, they purportedly saw Angadveer playing outside when a person inside a white car appeared to call him out.
Soon after, the boy approached the vehicle and sat inside without resistance, suggesting that the victim might have recognised one of its occupants in the vehicle, The Indian Express reported.
This emerged as a major lead in the investigation, with police later shifting the focus of the probe from kidnapping by unknown persons towards those known to the family.
Thereafter, Parashar was detained by police for questioning and he is said to have admitted to the crime during interrogation.
Parashar told police that he took the boy from outside his home and killed him. The child’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination and further investigation in the matter is underway.
